Why do we need to tell people about our health services?

We heard from the community that people are confused about which health services they can access. Knowing all your options can help you make better health decisions. This can prevent health problems from getting worse and reduce stress for individuals and families. When people know where to go for help and what to ask for, they are more likely to get the right healthcare at the right time.

A health survey in 2025 asked residents if they needed more information to manage their health. One in five people in Murwillumbah wanted more help with a particular health issue. We've answered some of the most common questions below.

Wollumbin Medical has bulk billing doctors, which means eligible patients can see a GP with no cost at the visit. It’s an easy way to get quality care without paying out of pocket. Call (02) 5658 9911 for more details.

There are a few ways to apply for an aged care assessment:

  • Apply online: You can complete the online application for yourself or on behalf of a family member or friend. You will need your Medicare card to hand. The application takes 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Apply on the phone by calling My Aged Care on 1800 200 422: If you need assistance on the call, there are support options available.
  • Apply in person: If you would prefer to talk to someone face to face, you can make an appointment with an Aged Care Specialist Officer (ACSO) at a Services Australia centre by calling 1800 227 475.

You can call 1800MEDICARE (1800 633 422) any time, day or night, to speak with a registered nurse for free. They can help you decide what care you need and guide you to the right service or help you manage at home.

The Kids Helpline is available for young people aged 5 to 25 years. You can talk to a counsellor who can work alongside your GP, and you can even see the same counsellor for ongoing support. Open 24/7 - 365 days. Call 1800 55 1800 anytime for any reason.
