The Collaborative Care Program in Wentworth worked with the towns of the Wentworth Shire to understand local needs and improve access to primary health care in these communities.

The town of Wentworth (<1500 population) experienced private GP practice market failure in 2020. In response, Coomealla Health Aboriginal Corporation (CHAC) partnered with Wentworth Shire Council to open a GP clinic to serve the whole community. The project evaluated the benefits and challenges of this unique model of care.

The analysis found that CHAC's model of care had maintained a bulk-billed GP practice in the town throughout a very challenging period. When the right workforce is available, the model is financially sustainable and supported fully by Medicare.
